Oil Change

Routine oil changes are the cheapest and easiest way to prolong the life of your car’s engine. Engine oil degrades over time, making it less effective for your vehicle’s engine. Island Street Automotive offers multiple oil change service option based on your manufacture’s recommendations. All our oil change services come with a complete 27-point inspection of your vehicle, along with topping off all fluids that are needed to have your car running smoothly.

Semi-Synthetic Oil Change

Also called synthetic blends, semi-synthetic oil offers better protection than conventional oil, but at a lower cost than full synthetic. We have replaced our conventional oil and now offer semi-synthetic oil as our standard oil change.

If you want something that works better in low temperatures and can resist oxidation, but do not want to deal with the premium price tag of a synthetic oil change, consider a semi-synthetic oil.

Island Street Automotive offers:

- Pad and Rotor Replacement Caliper Replacement

Full Synthetic Oil Change

Synthetic oil is created in a lab for uniformity and high viscosity across a wide range of conditions, from subzero temperatures to summer’s heat. As a result, a car with synthetic oil will continue to provide peak performance whether you are driving to work during the coldest months or the hottest months in Massachusetts.

A high level of refinement, plus high-performing additives, allows synthetic motor oil to resist breakdown and sludge. Therefore, it lasts longer than any other type of oil, saving you trips to the mechanic to get your oil changed

Coolant System Services and Repairs

Your cooling system is what keeps your car from overheating. It works by circulating a mixture of water and coolant through the engine. Over time the coolant mixture becomes contaminated with scale and rust, which can clog and damage the cooling system components.

A cooling system flush essentially flushes out the entire system of contaminants and replaces the old coolant with fresh coolant to prolong the life of the system.

There are several components in your cooling system, radiator, hoses, water pump and thermostat just to name a few. These parts are inspected while we perform the coolant flush assuring that they are not leaking and working correctly to keeping the vehicle from overheating and causing further damage to your vehicle’s engine.

Follow the service maintenance schedule provided by the manufacturer to get the coolant replaced at regular intervals. In general, it is a good practice to change the coolant every 40,000-50,000 miles.

Transmission Services

Island Street Automotive offers a tradition transmission service and transmission power flush using the BG PF5 Power Flush and Fluid Exchange System.

Traditional transmission fluid exchange methods, such as a pan drop or most transmission flushes, do not remove all the old fluid before new fluid is added. The old fluid quickly contaminates the newly added fluid, causing it to break down much more quickly than completely clean automatic transmission fluid. Contaminated transmission fluid leaves behind deposits that can cause gear grinding, delayed transmission response, or stalling.

We will help you make the decision of which service is best to perform for you vehicle once we inspected the system and fluid.

The typical service interval is 60,000 to 100,000 miles. With some manufactures recommending every 30,000 miles depending on your driving conditions and history.

Transmission replacement is also available.

We will try to help you weigh out the pros and cons of each possible decision and will perform a complete assessment of the over all health of the vehicle to help with the deciding factor.

Electrical Repair

The electrical and electronic systems of vehicles are integral to almost every system on your vehicle and are being ever more complicated with advanced technology. They are responsible for routing power, ground, signals, information, and serial data communication throughout the vehicle's controls and systems. The electrical systems are linked by wiring, fuses, circuit breakers, and relays. Loose or broken wiring, poor pin fits, and broken connectors or switches may lead to intermittent power or a completely inoperative system.

Having electrical problems with your car can be extremely frustrating, we have experienced technicians that will be able to perform the proper diagnostic on the vehicles electrical system to help determine the cause for malfunction and complete the necessary repairs.

Tune Ups

Newer cars do not need a tune-up in a traditional sense like the older cars use to require, since most everything in your vehicle is controlled by the computers. However, it is still important to follow your manufacturers recommended service intervals to allow your engine to run smoothly and efficiently. A tune up includes of replacing the spark plugs, ignition wires (if equipped), air filter, cabin filter and fuel filter.

Signs that a car may need a tune-up: – Engine does not start as easily as before – Running rough, especially when started – Occasional misfiring – Rough unstable idle, stalling – Lack of power – Poor gas mileage

When scheduling your appointment for a tune up it is important to let us know what your concerns are so we can access the problem and correctly fix your vehicle.
